The Mrs. Rev Podcast: The Power of a Routine

Do you follow a strict routine, or do you prefer to go with the flow? While there is a time and a place for both strategies, a spiritual routine is one way to make sure that you are growing closer to God.

A routine will help you sustain your vision for your life.

You may have heard this analogy before, but imagine all the things you have to do in a day as a jar of rocks. Some rocks are big, like going to work, spending time in prayer, and paying bills. Other rocks are smaller, but still important, like giving your kids a bath, grocery shopping, and personal development.

We often like put the things we enjoy most in the jar first, but the only way that everything fits is if you put the biggest rocks in the jar first—if you make time for the most important things first.

“Show me your daily habits, and I’ll tell you how successful you will be.” - John Maxwell

Without structure, your intentions and desires will not amount to much. If you have never had a spiritual routine before, it might feel overwhelming. However, you will see results from the little changes you make over time!

One of your biggest rocks should be your spiritual growth! Here are three tips for starting a spiritual routine:

  1. Make a TIME and a PLACE to meet with the Lord.

  2. Choose a Bible Reading Plan. Try using a study Bible, app, or devotional.

  3. Choose a translation that is easy for you to read or try a new translation to help you get a fresh perspective.

God’s grace is an empowering force that will allow you to accomplish every desire He has for your life. With Him, you will have the power to stick to your routine and grow!

Pray this: God, I want to know you better. I want to understand your plans for my life. I want to please you in every way! Help me to grow my daily Bible reading and prayer routine. Help me to be more consistent than I ever have been through the last few months of this year. Give me your grace and your power! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
