Q & A with Pastors Nathan and Joie Miller - Family Edition

Raising a counterculture family can be challenging, but the Holy Spirit has equipped us as believers. Being able to keep our focus on God the Father, we can learn to love our own families with this same grace, patience, and understanding. Keeping this love as our firm foundation as parents is crucial to building strong families. As parents to five children ages 21 to 11, we have learned a thing or two about the challenges each stage can bring! These challenges that the world tries to force upon us certainty can and do look different, but the Holy Spirit is consistent.

Romans 12:2 reminds us, “ Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

As parents, we must understand the differences between setting values and living by them. Many of the choices we make as parents on how we raise our children are caught by them, not taught to them. Meaning-- we need to lead by example! A great way to start this is by creating a vision for your family. This will set the tone and atmosphere where our families learn and grow. We do not have to limit ourselves to how we were raised. It is easy to revert to what we knew, but as children of God, we have His Word to give us the goals to reach; it is a clean slate!
