Cracked to the Core

Life circumstances can leave us feeling hurt or disappointed by people. But when we don't address those situations, we can allow them to affect our faith, our identity, and the way we view God.

Today we're talking about three areas where the enemy tries to attack your core, how three different people in the Bible overcame those attacks, and how you can too.

Hagar

Read: Genesis 16

Hagar was used to bring a child into the world, and then she and her child were rejected. She was probably feeling disappointed, forgotten, and like there was no purpose for her life. But God showed up and he spoke life and purpose into her. He didn’t forget you, and He hasn’t forgotten you either! Even if what you are going through is your fault, God is still working things for your good when you submit it to Him.

Declare: I am important to God. People might have forgotten me, rejected me, and done me wrong, but God still sees me!

The Shunamite Woman

Read: 2 Kings 4

The Shunamite woman had hoped before. The possibility of hoping again seemed painful, but God was faithful! When you put your trust in Him, you will not be disappointed.

Ask: What in your life makes you say, “Oh no God, don’t tease me. I can’t go there. My heart’s been broken and disappointed”?

Declare: I may have been disappointed before, but God is still good and I can trust Him to fulfill His promises! I am choosing to have hope!

Joseph

Review: Genesis 31-36

Joseph could have decided that he was defined by feeling forgotten. Instead, he allowed the Lord to heal him so he could forget the pain of the past. In the end, Joseph’s family is restored, one son’s name is fruitful and the other means to forget.

If the enemy can’t get you to sin, he’ll get you to stumble in areas of offense. Don’t give in! Ask God to help you forget all the times you felt rejected, and forgotten about.

Declare: I choose to forgive and forget the people who have hurt, betrayed, and forgotten me in the past. Today is a new day, and I receive God’s grace for today.
