Give God Your Yes

Has God ever asked you to do something? That inner prompting of your spirit or a directive in your time of prayer? Often in the moment when we hear God’s voice with direction, we begin to think of all the reasons why we could never accomplish what we feel God is asking us to do. Whether it is feelings of inadequacy or fear of failure, we often give God a long list of why we can’t do what He’s asking us to do.

God doesn’t want your list, He doesn’t want your rationale; all God is asking you for is your yes. In Acts 9, God was reaching out to Saul to redirect him on the path God had for him. God had to get Saul’s attention in a radical way. If you were to rationalize Saul’s conversion experience to Paul, you would probably label it as impossible. There were too many factors stacked against Saul. For one, he was persecuting God’s people. God didn’t look at the list of reasons Saul’s conversion to Paul was improbable. All God was interested in was Paul’s yes. After Paul’s radical encounter with the Lord, He gave God his yes. Yes to walking in God’s plan by God’s power rather than his own.

All God is asking of you is the same thing He was asking of Saul turned to Paul—faith and obedience. He wants your yes. God doesn’t need you to figure out or validate His plan for your life. All He needs is your willingness. Are you willing to lay down your will to the will of God? Are you willing to feel out of control and uncomfortable to walk in God’s best? It starts with a simple word—yes. Yes to whatever He is asking of me to do. Isaiah 64:8 reminds us that we are the clay, and He is the potter. God is the one who has created you for the plan that He is asking you to say yes to. As you say yes, He will empower you with everything you need to walk that plan out! You don’t have to know how the plan is going to come together or understand every aspect of the plan; just be willing and obedient. Paul, who was once Saul, went on to write the majority of the New Testament. God’s plan for Saul, who converted to Paul was so big that if Paul had known every detail, it would have overwhelmed him. All He had to do was start with a yes.

All you have to do is start with that one word too. What is God asking you to do? He wouldn’t ask something of you that He wouldn’t give you the grace to walk out. Step out in faith today. Give God that one word that will start you on a path of God’s best for your life. Tell God today, whatever your plan, big or small, whatever you are asking of me—I say “YES”!
