Get Out Of Your Head

GEt Out Of Your HEad

“Regarding your previous way of life, you put off your old self [completely discard your former nature), which is being corrupted by deceitful desires, and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind {having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude]. Ephesians 4:22-23 AMP

Have you ever gotten into your own head? By that, I mean, have you ever overthought something or talked yourself into a completely false narrative? Humans have a way of getting into our own heads. The problem is that as Christians, God is trying to get us out of our heads and to be led by the spirit! When you accept Jesus Christ into your heart as Lord and Savior, the Bible tells us in John 3 that our spirit is made new. Here’s the problem, even though our spirit has been born again, our mind needs to be renewed.

Our minds are constantly filled with thoughts contrary to God’s way. The Bible reminds us in Romans 12:2, “not to be conformed by the thinking of this world but to be continually transformed by the renewal of our mind.” The world follows a pattern of thinking that produces worry, doubt, discouragement, fear, and negativity. The enemy uses the wrong thoughts to keep us in the past, keep us captive to offense and insecurity, and hold us back from excelling in who God has called us to be.

According to Ephesians 4:22, God’s desire is for you to have a fresh and untarnished mental and spiritual approach to your thinking. In order to get the old thinking pattern out of your head, you need to retrain yourself. 1 Corinthians 10:5 instructs us to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. To retrain your thinking, YOU have to take your thoughts captive. This means you have a decision to make. Will you keep thinking like you always have and stay in the same place you’ve always been in life, or will you actively guard your mind?

In what ways are you in your own head? What thoughts are dragging you down and holding you back? The enemy is crafty but not creative. He will often use the same bait to lure you into wrong thinking over and over again. Make a decision to cast down every thought that exhausts itself against the knowledge of Christ in your life. Begin to take an inventory of your thoughts. Do your thoughts side with God’s word and whom He says you are in Christ or do they side with the narrative of the world or the enemy? If a thought produces negative feelings or emotions, be quick to dismiss it and renew yourself in the word of God! This is your day to get out of your head and allow the Holy Spirit in through the renewing of your mind!
