The Secret to Doing it All

Have you ever felt like you had too much to do and too few hours in the day? I’ll often have people ask me how I can do it all as a mom, wife, pastor, and woman. The secret to doing it all is this: time management. This week on the Joie Miller Podcast, I'm sharing about how time management changed my life and how you can be successful as a wife, mother, and child of God regardless of what season of life you are in.

When I was younger, I used to think that my day would dictate what I did. I spent years feeling frustrated that I wasn’t moving forward in my goals until I realized that I could assign my time! I started by asking myself these three questions:

  1. What is required of me during this season?

  2. What are the most important things to me?

  3. Where do I feel like I’m lacking? How can I adjust?

If you want to make a schedule that works for you and find success in the season that you are in, try these three things:

Assign a time for everything.

The worst feeling s a woman is feeling pulled in different directions, so I never felt fully present and fully engaged. Assigning a time makes you fully engaged. I use a planner and I live by it. At the beginning of the month, I’ll put in all of my anchors, the things I have to do. Then I put in my goals and the things I want to see happen. Finally, I write down what I would consider a win.

Find a mixture between discipline and grace.

I let my planner tell me what I’m going to do on a given day. If you’re undisciplined, you’ll feel like time management doesn’t work. But if you’re too strict, you will feel like you are unable to adjust when things come up. If they don’t go according to plan, give yourself grace, make adjustments, and try again!

“He leads gently those with young.” Isaiah 40:11

Don’t compare. This is a huge mistake! Not all of us are in the same season. The way your life is now is not the way it will always be. Take time to enjoy and maximize the season you are in.

Q: Do you have a schedule for your day? Try making one this week! Depending on your goals and your season of life, pick the thing or things that you want to accomplish every day and stick to it. Ask God to give you wisdom as you create your schedule and strength to follow through.

Pray this: Father God, thank you for giving me a purpose. Help me to approach every day with energy and determination as I pursue everything you have called me to do and be. Help me not to get weary of doing good but to know that I will reap the rewards of it in Jesus’ name! Amen!
