The Mrs. Rev Podcast: The Benefits of Wisdom

One of the most important things you need to navigate the world today is wisdom! From choosing a spouse to processing the news on TV and social media, wisdom helps you make rational, godly decisions. As Christians, God has given us many resources to help us walk in wisdom every single day!

“But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.” 1 John 2:27

We get wisdom from three places:

  1. The Word of God

  2. Holy Spirit

  3. Other people and their experiences

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5

Wisdom will always help you to become the best version of yourself. Wisdom will draw out the God-given potential in you.

“Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” Proverbs 1:7

Here are 7 ways to be more wise in your everyday life!

1. Choose to be wise.

When you are wise, you don’t do life the way you want. You acknowledge that God is the savior and Lord of your life. You know that life is better when you submit to him.

Q: Are you putting God first? Take some time to ask the Lord if there is any area of your life where you have been making your own decisions without asking Him for wisdom.

I don’t want to build my own house, I want the Lord to build my house.

2. Practice wisdom in your speech.

“Fools’ words get them into constant quarrels; they are asking for a beating.” Proverbs 18:6

You need to tame your tongue! Watching what you say is one way that God helps you protect yourself. Not only does it protect you from the dangers of gossip and anger but it also protects your faith. If you believe God is going to do something, your words should line up with it. That’s wisdom!

3. Don’t just focus on what you can see.

Wisdom and discernment look past the natural and toward the things of God. You will not always be able to see immediate proof that God is working.

4. Be grateful

A wise person is thankful for what is going on in their life. A fool is always ranting and complaining about what is going wrong or what God isn’t doing in their life. Gratitude attracts God.

5. Look ahead

“This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.” 1 Corinthians 1:25

Keeping your eyes on God’s promises instead of your present situation will keep your faith strong.

6. See the best in people.

Wise people are not critical. They choose to love people and see the best in them. When you love people like God loves them, you overlook their weaknesses and call out the God-given potential in them.

7. Get around wise people.

Seek wise counsel. Who are the people you consider your spiritual authority? This should be your pastor, if not, why?

Pray this: Thank you God for giving wisdom freely to everyone who asks. I want to be wise and please you in everything I do. Show me where I have left you out of my decision-making process and where I need to be more wise. Help me to guard my heart, mind, and tongue and to pursue wisdom above everything else. Thank you for leading me and guiding me through your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen!
