Healing from grief and past trauma

How would you describe your 2020? Many people are grieving the loss of family members, financial stability, and experiences. It's normal to experience feelings of loss and grief, but God does not want you to stay stuck in that place. The Bible tells us that in His presence we can have fullness of JOY! So how do you move on when you went through something hard? In this week's episode of The Joie Miller Podcast, I'm sharing some of my own experiences with grief and trauma and the steps God showed me to help me overcome it.

  1. Take a pause, not a pit stop.

It’s okay to acknowledge your emotions, but it can be harmful to hang out in them for a long period of time. Choose to acknowledge what you are feeling and then decide that you are not going to stay in that place!

  2. Lay it down at His feet.

Give your emotions and situation to Jesus. He already knows what you are going through, and He already knows what you need from Him. He’s just waiting for you to ask.

  3. Keep a wholeness mindset.

Sometimes you can become so identified by your past that it is difficult to think of what life will be like if you are whole again. We see this over and over again in the Bible when Jesus talks to people before He heals them. He wants to see if they are ready to leave their past behind. Decide today that you are going to be whole. Your past is not your identity!

  4. Choose joy.

Joy is not dependent on your circumstances. It is a fruit of the Spirit that will become more evident in your life the more you spend time with him. In your prayer time, ask God to give you more joy and to get rid of anything in your life or mind that would prevent joy from flourishing.

Pray this: Father God, you are the one I trust with every part of me. Today I choose to trust you with all of my emotions. I am giving them to you. My identity is found in you and not in any traumatic situation I have faced or loss I have suffered. My hope and my joy is in you. Do what only you can do. Heal me from the inside out. IN Jesus’ name, amen.
