Your Most Vital Resolution

One of the most important changes you can make this year is the way you think.

Every day, thousands of thoughts come hurling through our minds. Some good; some not so good. Some thoughts leave us feeling encouraged and hopeful, while most thoughts bombard us with negativity and anxiety!

How can we change the way we think with all of the information and chatter we hear daily? How can you begin to hear God more clearly and discern His direction and will for your life amid the noise?

The answer is simple: take every thought captive! Your mind is important; it influences how you think, talk, and feel. It's worthy to be guarded! Your mind makes a horrible master but a wonderful servant. Your most vital New Year’s resolution is a sound mind!

When you let the information and thoughts that you hear and think about dictate you, you will be a confused mess, but when your mind is taken captive by the Word of God, you can walk in peace and clarity—rightly discerning God's will for your life!

"We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ." -2 Corinthians 10:5

You are responsible for what you allow and don't allow your mind to meditate on. You can't always control what you hear or the thoughts that enter your head, but you can decide what you do with those thoughts!

The Bible tells us we have the authority and the responsibility to take our thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ. That means not every thought that enters your mind is worthy of meditation! Take that thought and weigh it against the Word of God. Does it line up with scripture? Does it speak into what and who God says you are? If it doesn't, cast it out of your mind! Don't meditate on it, as to give it life and let it grow into an attitude or an emotion that dictates you.

There is no room in the New Year for thoughts that are contrary to what God's Word says about you! God wants to do things in and through you that wrong thinking will completely abort!

"For as a man thinks in his heart so is that man." Proverbs 23:7

When you change the way you think and the thoughts that you allow to grow in your mind, you will change your life!

Recognize God's voice through what is written in His Word and discount any other voices that you hear this year! There is too much at stake to meditate one second on a thought contrary to scripture.

Take your thoughts captive, or they will take you captive! Put on the mind of Christ and see how your renewed mind transforms you in 2024!
