What Is Faith?
What Is Faith?
What is faith in 2023? The Bible tells us in Hebrews 11:1, “faith is the confidence in what we hope for and the evidence of what we do not see.” Confidence & evidence. To have faith is to be more convinced of what God’s word says than even the natural circumstances around us. God hasn’t called you to allow what is going on in your life to dictate your outcome. God is calling you to use your faith to establish your reality.
Your reality is what is happening around you and what is real to you. God is asking us in Hebrews 11 what our reality is. Is your reality your circumstance? Is your reality your feelings, your doctor’s report, or your bank statement? These things are subsequent to the promises for you in God’s word; they are facts, not truth. Facts report what is happening around us; faith creates a reality based on the word of God. So how does faith operate in 2023? Faith operates today, just as it did in the days of Abraham, and God wants you to apply faith to every area of your life. There shouldn’t be a compartment in your life labeled ‘faith’ for a time of emergency or for just when you are feeling anxious are afraid. God wants you to learn to live a life of faith.
Maybe you are reading this and wish you had more faith. The Bible tells us that the measure of faith God has given to each one of us is more than sufficient for any situation we should face in life. We are responsible for taking that deposit of faith and growing it through reading and meditating on God’s word. Romans 10:17 tells us that “faith comes by hearing the word of God.” If you don’t know what God’s word says, you have nothing to be confident of. To grow your daily faith, become familiar with the Bible. God gives us insight into the blessings we can experience through walking with Him and faith to navigate difficult situations and wisdom for parenting and everyday living. Learn what the Bible says and redefine your vision based not on your circumstances but on God’s word! If a particular area keeps tripping you up or holding you back, grow your faith in that area. Memorize scripture on financial blessing, peace instead of anxiety, or whatever the circumstance is, and grow strong in that area of the scriptures.
Not only can you grow your faith by getting to know the Bible, but you grow user-friendly faith by sowing the right seed! Yes, I said the right seed. We sow seed all day through our thoughts, words, and actions. If you live a life where circumstances dictate your reality, you are most likely sowing seeds of negativity, doubt, and complaining. You will reap a harvest off of these seeds. However, it will be a bad harvest.
Grow your faith by sowing good seed! Respond to God’s word by releasing your faith through meditation on what is good and true. Speak words of life that coincide with the reality you believe God for. Make faith steps through actions that align with what you believe God to do. If you believe God is going to give you abundance, get on a budget so you can steward the increase. If you believe for a baby, start reading books on parenting. Faith expresses itself through action.
Living a life of faith means growing and releasing your faith daily, over every circumstance. It is as simple as waking up and expressing thanks to God. Faith is praying over your family and declaring God’s word over your day. Faith is choosing not to worry but to meditate on the word of God. Your faith is user-friendly. You don’t have to consider yourself super spiritual to live a lifestyle of faith; it is for your parenting, workplace, school, and marriage. Faith gives you access to a supernatural way of life in your everyday. Faith creates a reality based on the promises of God rather than what’s currently unfolding in your life. Because of Jesus, we can live a life in peace and joy, fully convinced that our circumstances don’t bind our lives.
Faith isn’t something you “have” in 2023. Faith is active in your 2023. Release your faith into your every day and see what God does!
