Spiritually Minded or Wordly Minded?

Are you naturally minded or spirit minded? Natural-minded people have a hard time receiving spiritual things. It takes someone who is strong in spirit to receive everything that God has for them. You may wonder, how do you know you’re strong in spirit? There are different ways that you can know that you are spiritually strong.

  1. Evaluate your spiritual condition:

“Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and you and you are healthy in body as in spirit.” 3 John 2

Don’t be deceived, your spiritual condition doesn’t stay neutral. You are either growing or diminishing in the things of God! It is your responsibility to keep tabs on where you are spiritually. In the book of James, the Bible likens God’s Word to a mirror. You can look at it and if your life doesn’t reflect God’s word, then you can believe God for change. The problem is when we become comfortable with where we are in life and in our spirituality. Take note of where you are spiritually. Are you dull or numb to the things of God? Have you abandoned spiritual disciplines such as prayer and Bible reading? If so, it’s time to stir yourself up again spiritually! Change up your routine if necessary! Take a prayer walk, buy a different version of the Bible or a reading plan. Whatever you have to do, do it! Your spiritual growth is too important to let diminish!

  1. Watch your spiritual diet:

What are you consuming? Too often we watch our physical health, yet we neglect our spiritual diet. What are you taking in? What you feed grows and what you starve dies. Are you feeding the appetites of the flesh? The majority of what you are consuming is what will manifest in your life. Are you hungry for the things of God or are you hungry for the things of this world? Turn off the secular music and turn on the worship music. Turn off the tv and pull out your Bible. Stop talking to people about your problems and start talking to God! Assess your diet!

  1. Train yourself in godliness:

1 Timothy 4:7 says, “Train yourself toward godliness.” Train yourself. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior your spirit man is immediately saved and made new. Your soul your body still need renewed. This means you have a responsibility to retrain your thoughts, your responses, your thinking, and your emotions to the things of God. Romans 12:2 says to renew your mind with God’s word so that you don’t become like the world. Start today by retraining your mind by meditating on God’s word. Before you know it, what God says will be your automatic response!

  1. Practice spiritual rest:

Spiritual rest does not mean taking off church! Spiritual rest means to learn to give your troubles to God. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden and are over burden and I will cause you to rest.” When you carry your own burdens, it doesn’t take long before you feel tired and worn down spiritually, physically, and emotionally. What are you carrying? Is the load of life weighing you down or do you cast your cares upon the Lord? When you leave your burden with the Lord you experience a spiritual strength and vitality like never before!
