Seasons

Right around the fourth of July every year, I feel myself start to already transition to that feeling that summer is almost over. How silly is that? Really summer is thriving at that point. Instead of unreservedly enjoying the season, I begin transitioning my thinking to what is next. This is true with life in general. If we’re not careful- in the middle of something good we’ll transition our mind and emotions to the “next”. God does want us to live in the next or even the past—He wants us to live in the now. His mercy for you in now- today. His joy for you is now.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lam 3:22

The enemy loves to get you to forfeit the now either by meditating on a season of the past or looking ahead to the future. Both suck the joy out of today. Maybe you miss a past season and you feel like the best is behind you. Maybe you look back with regret and instead of changing and sowing good seed in this season, you live in sorrow.

What about looking ahead? Do  you look ahead with excitement, yet you despise the now. Have you adapted the mentality, I’ll be happy when……. When I get married, when I have kids, when I change my job, when I lose weight. No more when--- be happy now.

No matter what your current season looks like—you can know that it will eventually change and that’s ok. Different seasons offer different things and with God you can know they can all be good. So, what is your next today? Is it a child going off to kindergarten or even college? A child getting married or maybe you’re getting married…. The next will always be there and soon today will be tomorrow so embrace the now, the present. Don’t let your emotions take you somewhere that God’s not in. He is in your today. No matter what yesterday was, tomorrow will be, know that today He is good and He is enough!

Declare: God I recognize the gift of today. I choose not to worry, dread, or hasten towards tomorrow. Your mercies are enough for my now. I choose joy today. I choose to embrace the grace you’ve given me for the season that I am in!

Seasons come and seasons go, people change, and children grow --- yet you remain the same.

Summer fades and fall appears, winter dawns and spring comes near, yet you remain the same. Grace, mercy, joy, and peace my mind is silenced when you speak---you remain the same. Sounds of laughter, through a tear why would I let my heart fear—you remain the same.

Ecc 1:8 For everything there is a season, and a time for every [a]purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
