Anchor In Hope

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain. Hebrews 6:19

Last summer we were in Florida boating for the day with our family. As we boarded the boat, of which my husband was the captain of, the instructor warned us to stay in the bay unless we were feeling adventurous for the wavy, rough waters of the Gulf of Mexico. As we ventured out, my husband heard the instructor’s words as a direct challenge to his boat driving ability. We headed straight for the waters of the Gulf. As we passed the inlet to the open turquoise waters of the Gulf, we anchored down to swim for a bit. The waves became so strong that the entire boat was rocking back and forth. We decided to leave; however, the anchor had become so lodged into the sand by the waves that my husband and son had to physically dive down to dislodge the anchor.

That day I had a revelation that brought Hebrews 6:19 to life. The stronger the waves, the more steadfast the anchor becomes. The hope we have in Jesus is strong and steady— trustworthy. When the waves and storms of life come and start to rock the boat around a bit, you have an anchor for your soul. Even when life seems difficult- Jesus himself said we would have trials in this life. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world!" John 16:33  (The key word is trials, not defeat)

The next time you are tempted to allow your soul to lead you, ask yourself these questions:

- What does the word say about this situation?

- Am I responding in faith or reacting in fear?

- How would my emotions be right now if I knew victory was the outcome of this situation?

Through Jesus there is victory ahead. So much so that even our soul can be steadfast and secure. When trials hit and life gets complicated, how does your soul respond? Are your emotions all over the place or are you anchored in Hope? There is a person you can anchor into that no matter what the waves look like around you, you can be sure that you’re not going under!

Today, no matter what you are facing or how big the waves around you seem— anchor into faith. Don’t let your emotions dictate your faith. Don’t allow natural elements to dictate how you respond. Attach yourself to the Word and to the Spirit of God. In Him, you will have victory after victory in this life!
