The Mrs. Rev Podcast: Confidence 101

On this week’s episode of the Mrs. Rev Podcast, I am joined by my daughter Ava Miller to talk about the topic of confidence. Most people have some insecurities, but if you are a child of God, you do not have to let those insecurities frame the way you view yourself!

Q: What tends to influence your confidence? Is your confidence stable, or does it vary based on your job performance or what others think about you?

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)

Here are some of Ava’s top tips for building confidence:

  1. Choose to take every thought captive.

When you focus on what the world wants you to be instead of what God wants you to be, your insecurities will be magnified. If you don’t know your worth, you’ll identify with those insecurities.

  2. Many of your insecurities come when you compare yourself to other people. You don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes in someone else’s life. So you can’t compare yourself to them. You can only compare yourself to the Word of God, and the word tells us that He made you a masterpiece. You are valuable to Him!

  3. Speak to your insecurities.

After God created everything, He said it was good. He didn’t say the trees were good and the birds were great. He said it was good. Your weaknesses might be someone else’s strength, but together, they work together for God’s plan. We are not competing with each other. Focus on what YOU were created to do, and you will thrive!

When we complain about yourselves, it’s insulting to God. It’s saying that He made a mistake. Nothing about you is a mistake! You address insecurity by knowing that you were created to be uniquely yourself. When my emotions start getting ahead of me, I look myself in the mirror and declare that I am favored and beautiful. I have wisdom. I am worthy. And once I declare them over and over again, I start to believe them.

  4. Remind yourself who you are in Christ.

Know your identity in Him. When you get your eyes off of who he’s called you to be, you can’t fulfill the purpose he has called you to live.

“Let's just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren't.” Romans 12:6 (MSG)

“The more that you discover who you are, the easier it will be to fulfill God’s calling for your life.” - Ava Miller

Pray This: God, I am so thankful that you don’t make mistakes. Thank you for working in me in every season of my life and making me more like you. Forgive me for letting my mistakes and insecurities define me. Today, I”m choosing to let you define me. Help me to control my thoughts and keep my mind fixed on you. In Jesus’ name, amen!
