What You Have is Enough
Have you ever wanted to do something, yet you feel paralyzed by insufficiency? The thought that there is a missing factor in the equation, that if it was just added you would have what you need to move forward? It’s the idea of waiting until you are completely sure of what you are doing before you do it. While there is wisdom in God’s way of doing things, God also calls us to operate in this thing called faith. In fact, no matter how sure or prepared you feel about something, chances are there will always still be a small percentage of what you do that requires a step of faith. Waiting too long for every detail to be perfect can actually become a stumbling block. God has given each of us an assignment from Heaven. Every person who is breathing right now has a purpose. This purpose is ordained by God, yet it is your responsibility to take the step of faith to begin walking in it. I often say it like this, “While you are waiting on God to see your purpose manifest, He just may be waiting on you.”
John 17:4 (msg) from the words of Jesus states, “ I glorified you on earth by completing down to the last detail what you’ve assigned to me.” Jesus had a detailed assignment—and so do you! God doesn’t expect you to figure it all out; He does want you to lean into Him enough to start using the gifts and talents that He’s given you (already) to accomplish your purpose.
Matthew 25:14-30 tells the parable of the talents. Each servant is distributed a talent, not all are equal but each one is important. Two of the servants are faithful to multiply the talent that was given to them. One servant was so afraid of messing up that he didn’t do anything with his talent, in fact, he buried it. The master in the parable reprimands the servant calling him wicked and lazy. Those are heavy adjectives to be described as. The moral of the story is that we are each designed by God with a purpose and we are each uniquely gifted and equipped to fulfill that purpose. It is each person’s individual responsibility to grow and walk in its fulfillment all for the glory of God! One day each one of us will stand before God and give an account for the gift of life that was given to us. On that day I want to be as confident as Jesus in saying, I have completed down to the last detail the purpose you have called me to fulfill!
The beautiful thing is that God doesn’t want your assignment to be a mystery, He wants to reveal it to you as you walk with him! He actually will reveal your purpose to you! If you are reading this today and you want to discover your God-ordained purpose, here are some steps to walk in!
1. Get a vision for your life!
Remember, God isn’t hiding it from you. Often times your purpose will manifest in the desire of your heart. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desire of your heart!” The Latin definition of desire in this scripture means from the father. When you delight yourself in the Lord every motive and ambition is filtered through Him! When you are following Jesus with all of your heart, you can lean into your godly desires. It is often these passions that point you to your purpose!
A clear vision will make way for clear expectations. Expectation is a key ingredient for faith! James 4 says, “You have not because you ask not.” Expectation is a magnet for God to show up!
2. Start to grow in your gifting!
Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God has prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” At some point, faith requires action. Whatever you feel your gift is, start growing it! Don’t wait until you are perfect at singing, speaking, creating, start where you are! Starting is faith! Zechariah 4:10 says, “Don’t despise the day of small beginnings, the Lord rejoices when the work begins.” Start moving in your purpose and God will continue to provide you with all you need to grow your gift. Once you start moving, the Holy Spirit will guide you on the right path!
3. Work your gift!
Consistency will bring increase! Anyone can start, but not everyone can remain consistent. Develop the disciplines and work that is required of you to grow your gift--and don’t stop doing those things. You may not see any results at first. You may be tempted to quit. Keep going. Perseverance produces a compound effect that brings increase. Don’t underestimate the power of small investments over a period of time! When God sees that you’re serious about fulfilling your gift and that you are willing to put in the work, He will show up and bless your natural with His supernatural! Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “Don’t grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time you will reap a harvest if you don’t give up.”
