Overwhelmed
Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed? Overwhelmed is defined as buried down beneath.
Life has a way of making us feel buried beneath stuff--busyness, stress, finances, and even goals can leave us feeling overwhelmed. If you wake up in the morning tired and already excited for bed- chances are you are overwhelmed. God doesn’t want you to feel buried beneath and defeated. In fact, if there is anything He wants you to be buried or covered in, it’s blessings. So how do you overcome feelings of being overwhelmed?
By faith.
Faith is the realization that nothing is going to take you down or defeat you—no matter how deep you may feel. Faith is the perspective that life is not all on your shoulders. There is actually a God in heaven who sees every detail of your life. Not only does He see it, but He has recorded your days before one has come to pass. The Bible reminds us that God is both the author and completer or perfector of our faith. What does this mean? It means that we are not doing life alone! There is a God in heaven who is very present in the everyday details. The burdens of this world can make you feel hopeless and defeated, but a life of faith can bring you out.
Faith is the ability to see past the now, into the promise. The now can be heavy and daunting. Maybe it’s not even big burdens, it’s the small things piling up on you—the chores and responsibilities, the dreams and desires not yet coming to pass.
Be reminded today that you are not in this thing called life alone. The author of your life- the author of your current circumstance is there with you. He is full of wisdom, strength, and sustaining power. He is there to hold you up when you feel like you are defeated. He is waiting for you to invite Him into your circumstances to pull you above the stress and strife.
Whatever leaves you feeling overwhelmed, take it to the Lord today. He is the God who makes the impossible become possible. He is your ever-present help in time of need. He is your stand-by – ready and willing to sustain you! Trust in Him today! Exchange your heavy burdens for His yoke which is easy and His burden which is light.
You are an overcomer; you have a helper and a friend. Remember, the weight of life doesn’t lie on your shoulders. There is an author and perfector of your faith working all things together (even right now) for your good!
When you feel overwhelmed:
Pray: Take your burdens to the Lord in prayer—give them to Him and don’t take them back! Release your worries and stresses and don’t continue to meditate on them through the day!
List what is bothering or overwhelming you and get it out before Him. The Lord is a great listener!
Confront your burdens with the word of God. For every issue that makes you feel defeated, remind yourself and the enemy that you are more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus!
Worship: Put on some good praise and worship ( good—not mope but faith-filled). Praise and worship change the environment and change your perspective! There is no quicker way to feel faith rise than through praise and worship!
Simplify: Sometimes we feel unnecessarily overwhelmed. Learn to simplify your schedule to elevate feelings of being overwhelmed. Believe it or not, you can even ask family or a friend to help with some responsibilities in crazier seasons.
Learn that you can say no. Prioritize your peace by setting boundaries around your schedule! The moment your yes feels like a burden, reevaluate!
Rest: Most people feel overwhelmed when they are tired and run down. This is the moment in life when it feels like the sky is falling the most. Refrain from making too many decisions in this state. Take a nap, rest, take a day to yourself.
